French fries are universally loved. These sticks of salt and oil, Sometimes sweetened for greater appeal, Are devoured by all in this country. Every American restaurant serves them: A staple of the culture. And so the question arises: Why “French” fries? Why not “American” fries? We have “American” cheese. Is it too much to ask for “American” fries? I can understand “French” onion soup, For I truly believe the French enjoy it. But the fries? Never. Fries are for the New World. Fries are for free men: Or perhaps not. Am I free when fries are before me? I like to think I could resist, But I can’t recall a time that I did. Their allure is too great. They were designed for mass consumption, And I cannot deny them their end. Maybe I should turn to sweet potato fries, Fries for free men, Fries that aren’t laced with salts and sugars, So as to not feed my growing addiction! No - I am trapped: Bound to the Frenchman’s fry.

French fries aren't even French. I can't believe you're supporting propaganda now. I'm unsubscribing. 🙄
